M. Samir Qamar, M.D.

Practice Philosophy

Dr. Sam Qamar, or Dr. Q, has a simple practice philosophy — to be the physician he himself would want to see. One who is well-educated, well-read, and well-travelled. One who takes the time to understand the patient as a person with feelings, responsibilities, and lifestyle preferences. A physician who works to find solutions to even the most complex problems. One who can be trusted with family, house calls, and discretion. This philosophy has served Dr. Q well, which is perhaps why many of his patients are physicians themselves, and why he has won countless patient awards.

Education

Dr. Qamar completed his graduate medical training in Family Medicine at University of Pennsylvania’s Penn Medicine-Lancaster General Health, ranked the #1 Family Medicine residency in the U.S. by Doximity. His residency training resulted in several honors, including the Neurosciences Excellence Award for Neurology and Stroke Management. Prior to residency, Dr. Q finished undergraduate studies at University of Maryland, medical studies at Ross University School of Medicine, and postdoctoral studies at Penn State College of Medicine. Since then, he has also completed leadership courses at Harvard Business School. Dr. Q has engaged in specialized research with HIV inhibitors, abdominal surgical incisions, progressive supranuclear palsy, brain angiomas and aneurysms, and symmetric peripheral gangrene. Special interests include hyperlipidemia, seasonal allergies, and behavior modification.

Concierge Medicine

While still in residency training, in 2002 Dr. Q forecasted that a relatively unknown practice model known as “concierge medicine” would eventually become very popular. He liked the aspects of personal attention, limited patient numbers, longer visits, and house calls. Dr. Q systematically began structuring his company while still a resident physician and test-marketed the concept around the nation. Following residency, Dr. Qamar moved across the country to Monterey, California, where he was soon invited to be the official House Physician for the famed Pebble Beach Resorts. In 2006, concomitant to his numerous duties at Pebble Beach, Dr. Qamar expanded his concierge medicine business to offices in Monterey and Silicon Valley, growing it into one of the most successful VIP practices in the nation. In 2012, Dr. Qamar moved to Summerlin, Nevada, to launch other healthcare ventures nationally.

Accomplishments

After successfully envisioning and executing his plans with concierge medicine, Dr. Qamar subsequently became one of the founders of the Direct Primary Care industry and helped with its legislation in several states. In 2014, after serving as consultant to Google on telemedicine matters, he invented new technology, MedWand, that allows patients to be medically examined anywhere in the world over the Internet. Dr. Qamar serves as the founder of two healthcare companies, MedLion, and MedWand, both which have enjoyed immense media attention. His tech innovations and visions on primary care have been highlighted in many publications, including The Wall Street Journal, Fox Business News, Forbes, The New York Times, and Time. Dr. Q has served as Formula One Moto GP Trauma Physician, Medical Director at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, Sports Doctor for Cal State Monterey Bay, medical director of numerous nursing homes and rehab facilities, and a volunteer physician at Rotary Club clinics. He was certified by the American Board of Family Medicine in 2005, is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Medical Association, and the MIT Technology Global Review Panel. Dr. Q is licensed to practice medicine in multiple states, and holds several patents in medical technology. He is often invited to speak at medical and technology events worldwide.
